Thermal camera training in Brisbane with Flir was impressive.
Great informative session by the trainer, gave an understanding of the cameras benefits and limitations on what it can and can’t do, more importantly knowing what it is designed to do.
There is power in understanding a tools benefits, however informing your customers and technicians on what limitations the tool has is more powerful.
The thermal camera
The Camera does not allow us to see through walls (See images below), the device is used to assist in the process of detecting the differentiation of temperatures around the property which may indicate conducive conditions in certain areas, where a further invasive inspection maybe recommended.
The additional thermal imaging camera has been used as recommended by the Australian Standards AS3660.2-2017, (Termite management in and around existing buildings) however the use of the thermal camera is not an essential tool as per Australian Standards AS4349.3-2007 (Timber Pest Inspections) or A3660.2-2017, however the moisture meter we use is.
The Thermal camera does enhance our inspection process, as not only are we inspecting for lives termites, workings and / or damage we are inspecting for high moisture, leaks and many other conducive conditions where the camera does assist in the process.
